It has been a great year at Ashley Bakery! We have gained lots of new wholesale and retail customers. We have been able to create new bread products and new cake designs. Thank you for a wonderful year. We can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store for us!

New cakes!

September 9, 2011

The bakery has been crazy busy. There is a little bit of everything here from custom Groom’s cakes and birthday cakes to baby shower cakes and wedding cakes.

Enjoy the pictures. We certainly enjoyed being a part of each and every party, event and wedding!

Hello 2011!

January 24, 2011

I hope 2011 has been great so far. The short lull in the wedding season has been full of appointments for wedding cakes. It has been so busy, meeting brides, writing proposals, catching all the details, booking dates and doing sketches. The time also has allowed me to do some organizing, learn some new decorating techniques and even revamp our proposal system so we can get our proposals out more quickly.  There has been no shortage of cake orders, so take a look at some of our recent work.

There are examples of “back of the bakery” work, which is non cake related. There are examples of “front of the bakery” work, which is all cake related.
We have tiny lemon meringue pies, blueberry muffins, red velvet donuts, strawberry strudel, bundt cakes, cinnamon rolls, mini pumpkin pecan tarts, fudge, toffee bars and chewies!! We were up to our ears in  mini desserts during Christmas.

We also have had a large variety of cakes. There was a Groom’s cake for a disc golf fanatic, a primary colored fondant birthday cake, a wedding cake with a big sugar magnolia topper, wedding cupcakes with 2 tone navy and white monogram tags, Christmas “present” cakes, a pink and lime green monkeycake, a leopard and zebra cake, an owl cake, an oyster table cake, a sailboat, a pink ladybug, a chocolate baptism cake, a champagne sweet 16 cake, a purple race car cake, and a hot pink, purple and silver unique wedding cake!

Cupcake accessories

November 28, 2010

We did 2 cupcake “wedding cakes” this weekend. They are not a dying trend, and unlike Duff, I do not hate cupcakes. They are nice for a less formal wedding. They can be accessorized like crazy and that makes them great in my mind!
The number one thing brides can do to dress up their cupcakes is to have fancy papers. These are a few websites I like to visit for papers. The first is www.fancyflours.com. Fancy Flours has a big selection of themed papers and some more unusual colors and patterns. The next is www.countrykitchensa.com. Country Kitchen Sweet Art also has a HUGE selection of cake decorating supplies and great ideas for decorating.
Give either of these a shot for your cupcake accessories. You won’t be disappointed!

Betsy Mullinax of B.Mullinax Photography was so kind to send me the link to her blog. She took some gorgeous, awesome pictures of Meredith Owens wedding at Alhambra Hall.

In it to win it!

August 3, 2010

We are going to a bakery convention in Myrtle Beach later this month. It is for the Southeastern Retail Bakers Association http://www.southeasternretailbakers.com/.  The theme of the convention is beach and they have a big contest running with several categories for entries.
I want to enter and have been brainstorming for ideas. I have lots of themed cakes for the beach theme, wedding cakes and occasion cakes. I think we can enter and win!

I have been looking at color palettes on http://www.southeasternretailbakers.com/. The palettes are inspiring. Sometimes, for a fleeting moment, I wish I was a wedding planner so I could plan all kinds of weddings with these colors I am in love with! Then I remember how much I truly love decorating cakes and snap out of it.
I wish more brides would be open to letting us design a cake for them. Unfortunately, I don’t get to do it as often as I would like. Hey, I can hint, right? HINT, HINT. If you are reading, let me design your cake!

Now that I am all hopped up on inspiration for my own use, I hope I can channel it into the tons of cakes I have for this week!

These are a few of my favorites from Snippet and Ink:

lovely!

Who doesn't love blackberries and lemonade?

vintage and modern

I could see this as a vintage circus color palette with some bunting across the front of the cake and some silhouettes at the top. I could also see this as a blue background with a bird nest and a vintage looking bird silhouette. How about a mint colored monogram plaque with some red sea whip or coral piped on the cake.

beachy

Beachy and worn.

Here are some more cakes from the past month or so. I hope you enjoy them!

Smith and Wesson

Yes, this was a Groom's cake. The Groom was big into guns and this is the biggest handgun you can buy!

I love the scroll corners and the black and turquoise!

I just can't get enough of these traditional looking cakes. It is like a Navy blazer and some tassel loafers, you can't go wrong!

A combo of traditional, modern, and custom.

50th birthday

A gold 50 and a figure for the birthday guy. I like the celebration pose!

I have been a posting slacker. We have been busy-decorating and vacationing all this Summer. We are looking forward to the Fall. At least looking forward to the cooler weather the Fall will bring, as we are melting in this 117 degree heat advisory!

Enjoy the pictures!

I wouldn't want to run into a shrimp this large!

I wish I was on a beach, enjoying a nice Corona!

I love the attention to detail and the goggles on this cake!

Mollie and Whitten

Mollie and Whitten.

We have some national press from the Wedding Channel. It is part of the Knot. I just loved the cake and cupcake displays at their wedding. A nice mention for a sweet couple!
